Play in the Sands of Sunny Isles Beach, Florida

sunny isles beach map

Some beaches are for lounging in the sand. Others are for splashing in the surf. And others still are for stepping out into the ocean as the city bustles behind you. Sunny Isles Beach is the perfect mix of all three.

Resting in the space between the ocean, the city, and the Intracoastal Waterway, Sunny Isles Beach offers visitors a quintessential Florida beach experience. Where many beaches have little to offer beyond the sand, Sunny Isles Beach has seemingly endless things to do, places to see, and food to eat. If you’re not soaking up the sand, you can be puttering up the waterway on a boat taxi or shopping in one of the many world-class malls nearby.

The Beach

A destination with “beach” in the name has a lot to live up to. Fortunately, Sunny Isles Beach isn’t all hype. Ocean lovers flock to Sunny Isles Beach to drive speed boats, ride water skis, and even surf and stand-up paddleboard.

Yet it’s a place you can also rest easy on blue-and-white striped beach loungers as your kids build sandcastles in the surf. Though Sunny Isles Beach is one of the top beaches in the greater Miami area, it’s still something of a best-kept secret. Even during Florida’s top travel months, Sunny Isles Beach still feels at peace.

The Parks

Sunny Isles Beach is bordered on its southern edge by Haulover Park and Oleta River State Park. Haulover Park shares the beach with Sunny Isles Beach. Though a portion of the park is clothing optional, there's plenty to do at the park besides play in the sand. Rent bikes, fly kites, and even try some of Miami’s best food at Food Truck Tuesday.

Located just across the waterway, Oleta River State Park sprawls across nearly a thousand acres of diverse Florida landscape. 15 miles of off-road bike trails meander across the park, as do waterways, picnic spots, and even a public beach. The park also recently opened The Blue Marlin Fish House, the perfect pit stop for lunch or dinner.

Other Attractions

Though you won’t want to spend much time off the sand, in Sunny Isles Beach you’ll find plenty to love about the city itself. Shopping is a favorite past-time in Sunny Isles, thanks to shopping hotspots like Aventura Mall and the Bal Harbour Shops. The beach is also only about 30 minutes north of Miami, so you could even venture down to Ocean Drive or Collins Avenue if you’re interested in a Miami shopping experience.

In Sunny Isles, you’ll also find sports venues and event centers like Hard Rock Stadium, engaging racetracks like Gulfstream Park, and cultural attractions like the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens.
